Tenth of the Year

It’s October already! I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you’ve seen dozens of Tweets, Tumblr posts, and Instagram photos announcing the obvious. But this month is bringing about all the feels not only because one, it’s Fall. And two, let’s face it Halloween is basically the best Holiday. But because it marks one year I’ve been living in Sacramento with my man.

I’ve grown so much since I’ve been here, I’ve found a job I can tolerate, found a great group of friends, I’m paying rent and bills, I’ve even got a credit card! So adult! Especially considering I’ve been attached to my mom’s hip for 18 years, coddled my whole life, never forced to actually take on responsibility. Of course being 400 miles away from my mom does suck. But I’ve become someone she truly admires for how independent I am. I do owe it all to my mom though, my mom and my boyfriend. They’ve been behind me every step of the way, and since I know they’ll continue to do so, here’s to many more moments and many more years of growth!

Tell me about your accomplishments! What are you most proud of?

Reading Recommendations!

> Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
I was a little bit hesitant to read this one, only because I didn’t think it’d be something I was into. But oh man was I wrong, I finished it in no joke, two days. Bernadette is a badass.
>Norwegian Wood
If you haven’t ready any of Haruki Murakami’s novels, please get on it! He’s one of my favorite authors, always able to take you away from reality. He’s raw and has no inhibitions. Norwegian Wood covers topics ranging from sex to death and everything in between. Check out Kafka on the Shore too!
>Stephen King: On Writing
If you’re into writing, of any sort, On Writing is a must read. In it he shares tips, tricks, and stories that molded him into what he is today.

>I shamelessly gobble up romance novels when I have nothing else to read. Anything Emily Giffin is great. Try Love the One You’re With, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue.
> Anything Vonnegut
>Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
>Anything Bukowski
>Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
>Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

I finally gave into the hype and am starting Gone Girl today!

Now you give me some suggestions!

Snail Mail!

We’re talking what’s in your mailbox. Bills, PennySavers, store ads, who even wants to check it. But occasionally and I mean occasionally, you get a card, a handwritten letter(on your birthday, from your grandma). It’s just not common! And why not? Taking the time out of your day to write an I miss you, I thought of you, a thank you note, can make you feel just as good as the person receiving it. Plus! Have you seen the cute stationary sets that are out there? Here and here. I love it, I’m a sucker for stuff like this.

So! I loaded up and I’m ready to write. It’s an added bonus that I’ve been getting into calligraphy and lettering, what better way to get some practice, right?

Shoot me an email with your address if you’d like a letter!

Can We Obsess Over?

I’ve had a crippling creative block the past couple of weeks. I can’t write a short story to save my life, can’t zero in on a topic to write about, I haven’t even touched my paintbrushes or camera. Which translates to a lack of posting, so to put an end to my lazy streak, I’m going to try out a series of weekly posts! Showing you in a super quick glance what’s been on my mind and some cool things I’ve stumbled upon.IMG_4315.JPG

Nate Berkus’s new fall line. As if I needed another reason to throw money at Target. Nate Berkus has managed to design a line with pieces that will blend seamlessly into your existing decor.

Super simple DIY Entryway Organizer. Courtesy of Molly over at Almost Makes Perfect. Only takes five minutes, she’s basically a genius.

Hackwith Design House’s Liz Kimono. In anticipation for the, hopefully, cooler nights ahead.

This Banana Bread I’m in love with. Whenever I have overripe bananas I didn’t get to in time, which happens more often than not, I turn them into a baked good! This is my favorite recipe.

What are you currently obsessing over?

One With the Lake

Anthony and I got to spend the past couple of days together, doing everything and nothing.

We went out to Folsom Lake and rented a tandem kayak. It was a first for the both of us and much more tiring than I thought it’d be. But we’ll definitely go kayaking again. Being out on the lake, although surrounded by people on paddle boards and in boats, it felt like it was just the two of us in the world. Nature can do that to you, make you realize everything else is irrelevant. It’s an almost unexplainable feeling, you just inhale and exhale the beauty of it all. I want more of that. Luckily I live close enough to visit the river anytime I please, and I hope to go hiking soon.

How do you connect with nature? And for those of you in the Sacramento area, where can a girl enjoy a good hike?

I’d like to call this little number, Striped Sweater

I’m sitting in my living room, sipping coffee. I should probably get up and go for a run, clean the apartment, do something slightly productive. But my cat has fallen asleep in my lap, so I’m content where I am.
When I find a state of happiness, I never think twice about relishing in the moment as long as possible. Because with life’s worries, bills, family, jobs, all that adult stuff no one likes to think about, it’s rare you get even a little bit of peace. Of course I’m the most content when I’m with my boyfriend, whether we’re riding bikes, lounging around the house, or running errands, I just have to glance his way and I feel a wave of bliss wash over me. Anthony snapped this photo of me the other day; We took a wrong turn on our way to his family’s party, and stumbled upon a cute little neighborhood, he thought it’d make for a nice backdrop. For some unknown reason I tend to get camera shy with my man but I think we managed to get a decent shot.

SIDENOTE: I’m not one to throw too much pattern on. Polka dots, when done right, can be great; Too much and you’re bordering on Minnie Mouse. Floral gets old, you can only take tiny doses of snakeskin. But stripes, I’m constantly gravitating towards stripes. You can go classic with a Breton top or a striped dress like the one I’m wearing(which is Banana Republic). They’re just so easy, and who can resist the laid back Parisian vibe they bring about.

J. Crew COMME DES GARÇONS® Stripe Sweater

Madewell Rhodes Shirt
I’m lusting after the above.

But this a cute, affordable option.

What’s your favorite way to don stripes?

Journal Excerpt

My skin craves the warmth of the sun. At first a burn and then a welcome shade of golden brown. I met you in the snow and fell in love with you sharing frozen bananas while we gave the heat a break. We took afternoon naps in the cool air and still woke up tangled in each other with sweaty thighs. The summer was long but our kisses were numbered.
